When I was a kid, it was hard to get in touch with people. We often sent letters to family and friends who live far away. And sometimes you couldn’t get in touch with people who you needed to in an emergency because no one had a phone that they could take with them to use after they left their homes. But now, just about everyone has a cell phone. Last week, I stopped in at a place that does iPhone screen repair in Richmond to get my phone fixed. I’m still not quite used to carrying a phone around with me all the time, but it sure does come in handy. I accidentally dropped mine, and when it broke the screen, I couldn’t use it. Being without it showed me just how much I’ve come to rely on it.
We had one of those old rotary dial phones in our house when I was growing up. There were no buttons to push. It had a dial on the front of it with holes for each number. You would stick your index finger into the hole for whatever number you needed to dial. It was simple to use, and it didn’t do anymore more than call people. They’re still around, but they are not much used compared to today’s technology. I can send text messages, emails and even do web surfng on my iPhone.
It took me awhile to really get interested in today’s technology. My grandkids are the ones who talked me into getting some of the same tech things they have. This really helps us to stay in touch better since they live several cities away with their mom. But now that I have a cell phone, I see how helpful it is in so many different cases. When mine broke, I wanted it fixed quickly.
